QUARTZ

Quartz is also called “engineered” quartz stone. It is pure natural quartz (often more than 90%) mixed with epoxy resins. It is nearly indestructible and a great choice for home owners who want a beautiful and durable countertop. It is non porous and does not get stained. It is extremely hygienic and food safe. One of the advantages is that it offers consistent color surface. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's continental crust, behind feldspar. Quartz crystals are chiral, and exist in two forms, the normal α-quartz and the high-temperature β-quartz. Since the transformation is accompanied by a significant change in volume, it can easily induce fracturing of ceramics or rocks passing through this temperature limit.
